The Henderson House Residency is a result of the generosity and vision of the late Barbara and Russell Henderson, both prominent figures within the Central Otago community. Barbara in particular was a long standing patron of the arts and culture. Well known for their philanthropy, their generosity included bequeathing their family home on Bridge Hill to provide a retreat for New Zealand artists. Sir Vincent O’Sullivan (writer) was the inaugural resident in 2008 and since its inception the house has successfully hosted over 15 of New Zealand’s finest creatives including writers, artists, composers, poets, photographers and jewellers. A full list of residents can be found here.
The House and the Residency sits under the care of The Russell Henderson Charitable Trust (registered charity CC25774).
